RE-visitation...

  1. In preparation for NaNoWriMo, I've decided to announce here (not that it hasn't been announced on the Wrangle) that I'll be participating. I've got a story seed ready to rip and this is just the occassion.
  2. That said, I've also been giving lots of recent thought to the Citydeep project and I've made many harsh realizations about it (with or without your comments). This is not to suggest that I do not still desire your comments. However, my previous "drafts" have been little more than a pile of corrections on top of the same pile of steaming crap. This (that I'm referring to) is an actual complete re-working that would constitute as a true (mind your quotes) second draft.
  3. Yes, have in fact imbibed liberally this evening.
  4. #2 (above) is the tax I pay for deciding to put the project aside and move on to another one. Let this be a lesson to all of us.

draft two: update

I'm up to about chapter 38 54 with this first round of revisions. Alas, not even partial feedback from anyone. I think the most I've gotten so far was: "Yeah, I've started looking at it."

That said: most of the changes thus far have been to tighten up certain passages (obviously composed while imbibing) and to shift tense from past to present. It reads better tha way. This first round of "revisions lite" will put it in a state for the any medium-to-major revisions I have planned and any from ya'll that weigh in.

So weigh in.

draft one: complete

74,716 words (that's about 315 pages) later and we can call the first draft complete.

Updated PDF posted.

"So how does it feel?"

Like a draft, folks. Feel free to jump in with critiques at any time now. Since there's actually a full draft to critique.

A little under a year to get the draft out (after kicking the idea around in the ol' brain since '01...) not too bad, I suppose. Now a break and on to revisions. (But first, we get drunk.)

For real this time? Let's hope I don't get another narsty case of the blocks like I have the past 2-3 weeks. Ugh. Had what resembled a nice run of two chapters today though.

Updated PDF posted.

Now if only there were feedback to work with...

That's like a normal week's worth of writing in a day yesterday. Nice! That said, I've updated the full PDF of the draft. Sooooooooooo close...

Assuming I’m aiming for around 80,000 words in the first draft of my novel, I’m about two-thirds of the way there. Hrmm… I knew I should have typed up those six other hand-written chapters… Looks like I won’t make my December 4th goal…

Anyway: Updated the full PDF of the draft. No other "highlight" chapters just now. Been getting a lot done long-hand lately. (Where "a lot" is about 2-4 pages per day.) The flurries are nice and encouraging. Maybe have my draft done before the end of the year? Who knows... One thing is for sure, the first draft is going to get ugly near the end. A lot of clean-up will be necessary. So glad I've been keeping notes...

5++

Chapter 5 of the project available for PDF download right here. Plus the updated full PDF, too - - through chapter 44. All 215 pages of it. Sick!

And since we're on the subject, my pace has picked up since I switched back to the paper/pen method. I feel like I've got this psychological edge - - like I let loose a little easier since I know it's going to need to be transferred from chickenscratch to type anyway. The next draft is built right into the process. I think I'm close (2-3 weeks) away from the conclusion of the final draft. That will just leave typing it up, getting the feedback and diving into the first round of revisions...

Now... How's everyones' NaNoWriMo projects going?

vier und viel mehr

Chapter 4 of the project available for PDF download right here.

Updated the full PDF, too.

Officially broken 200 pages as of late last week. Not the fastest pace. But a nice steady one...

So, with NaNoWriMo around the corner, are we going to see a flurry of posts or what?
